Jeju University Volunteers Bring IT Education to Nepal

A 12-member volunteer team from Jeju National University (JNU), South Korea, is currently in Nepal conducting an intensive IT education program. The initiative, part of the World Friends Korea (WFK) program, is supported by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the JNU RISE Center.

The program, which began on July 21, is providing hands-on IT training to students at two Nepali schools: Mahendra Secondary School and Creative Learners’ Academy Secondary School. The curriculum includes lessons on Arduino microcontrollers, HTML-based web development, and Python programming, targeting students who have limited access to such technology.

During the sessions, students have built creative LED-based projects with Arduino to learn circuit logic and hardware control. In the HTML course, they designed their own personal web pages, fostering digital self-expression. Currently, Python classes are underway at three different levels, teaching programming logic and computational thinking through mini-projects.

“It’s inspiring to see these students embrace new technologies,” said Sujin Han, the team leader. “Thanks to the support from NIA and the RISE Center, we’re creating meaningful educational opportunities that also promote cross-cultural understanding.”

The team has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with both schools to build sustainable partnerships in IT education. This initiative highlights Jeju National University’s dedication to international development and offers its students valuable global learning experience.

The WFK IT volunteer program is scheduled to conclude on August 12, with future collaboration expected in curriculum development and long-term exchange initiatives.
