The grand finale of the “First MBAN Inter-College Capital Market Quiz Contest 2023” came to thrilling and successful conclusion on Sunday, 8th October, 2023 at Global College, Mid-Baneshwor leaving everyone impressed by showcase of the participants’ intelligence and financial know how. Out of 30 participating college’s teams, the 8 colleges – Quest International college, Kathmandu College of Management (KCM), Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM), Reliance college, Nepal College of Management(NCM), The British College, Uniglobe College and Apex College qualified for semifinal and final round in last day of event on 8th October, 2023. The competition, which had been eagerly anticipated, brought together bright young minds from various colleges to showcase their expertise in the complex world of capital markets.
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) is a global association of securities regulators and organizations which primary objective is to promote the development, efficiency, and integrity of securities markets to protect investors and facilitate capital formation. Every year in the month of October, IOSCO members conduct ranges of activities and campaign to celebrate World Investors Week (WIW). WIW 2023 started from 2nd October to 8th October, 2023 when various activities, workshops, seminars, and educational programs were conducted in the span of full week period.
In Nepal, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has taken the initiative for the second time to celebrate the vibrant World Investors Week from October 2 to 8, 2023. This commendable effort reflects SEBON’s commitment to raising awareness among investors and enhancing capital market literacy within the country.
As part of this important week, the Merchant Bankers Association of Nepal (MBAN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the betterment of the capital market, has stepped forward to organize the “FIRST MBAN INTER-COLLEGE CAPITAL MARKET QUIZ CONTEST 2023” in Nepal from 6th to 8th October, 2023. This event aligns perfectly with one of MBAN’s primary objectives: educating investors and encouraging greater participation in the capital market.
As the contest progressed through its various rounds, the 4 college teams – NCM, KUSOM, QUEST International and KCM were successfully stepped into Grand Finale which includedGeneral round, Bonanza Round, Buzzer round and Rapid Fire round. The competition among the team were intense and exciting throughout the event. In a thrilling and closely contested battle of intellect and strategy, the team from Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) emerged as the champions, securing the winner’s trophy and NPR. 1 lakh First Cash Prize.
Similarly, NCM college as first runner up team secured trophy and NPR. 50,000 cash price and the Quest International college after its splendid come back managed to grab trophy of third position along with Cash Prize of NPR. 25,000.
The grand finale hosted by Former Miss Nepal Sadichha Shrestha overwhelmingly welcomed the special guests of the event. The chairman of MBAN, Mr. Bijaya Lal Shrestha encouraged and boost up the confidence of the participants with his opening remarks. Similarly, the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Hamal and other distinguished guests from Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), Nepal Stock Exchange, CDSC, Broker Associations of Nepal, MBAN members and media partners retained the prestige of the program. The Chief Guest was impressed by the participants’ performance and wanted to encourage the winners for their future endeavors. He also admitted that this was the first ever inter-college quiz competition regarding capital market. Dr. Nabaraj Adhikari as the executive director of the SEBON and also being Country Directory of WIW 2023, expressed his valuable insights and perspectives of the WIW campaign and also presentedfuture plans to incorporate participants from all 7 provinces of Nepal for such events committed to empower and educate investors.
The success of event was possible by the financial and logistic supports of various corporate and academic institutions. Global college supported with venue and logistic arrangements,Patan Multiple Campus, Reliance College, Ed-Mark College, Apex College and KCM college were provided their knowledge and promotional support.
